How to export search results from a website to Excel
Run your search on the website, click the NeatCells icon, and check that it found the results (not the filters or the menu). Click Collect next pages to add the following pages of results, then Download Excel.
Why copy and paste fails on results pages
A results page mixes the results with filters, sorting menus, adverts and "people also searched" boxes. Each result is a small card whose title, price, rating and labels sit in separate boxes. Pasting such a page gives one long column of text that has to be rebuilt by hand.
Step by step
- Search on the website and set the filters and sorting you want.
- Click the NeatCells icon. It looks for the largest set of repeated items and shows them as a table. If it took the wrong block, click Select on the page, then one result.
- Check the columns: NeatCells names them from what they hold, such as Title, Price, Rating, Reviews or Date, and adds URL columns for links. Rename or remove any you like.
- Click Collect next pages. NeatCells opens the next page of results, waits a few seconds, adds its rows, and goes on: up to 5 pages for free, up to 500 with Pro. It understands Next links, page numbers and "Load more" buttons.
- Click Remove duplicate rows if sponsored results repeat, then Download Excel.
Tips
- Sort the website's results first: NeatCells keeps the page's order, so "price: low to high" gives a sheet in that order.
- If results load as you scroll instead of on numbered pages, use Scroll to load more.
- Save a recipe when you will run the same search again: next time, "Use recipe" rebuilds the same columns in one click.
Questions
Will the website block me?
NeatCells works in your own browser at a polite pace (3 seconds between pages by default) and stops as soon as a site shows a CAPTCHA, a sign-in page or a "too many requests" answer. Some websites' terms limit automated collection, so check them for large runs.
Can I get details that are only on each result's own page?
Yes, with NeatCells Pro: "Details from each item's own page" opens each result's link, one at a time, and adds what it shows, such as brand, specifications or description.
Does it work on any site?
On most sites that list results as repeated items. Chrome keeps its own pages and the Chrome Web Store closed to extensions.
